We are delighted to be supporting The Laura Centre, as our chosen charity for 2018.
The Laura Centre
The Laura Centre is a professional bereavement service. They specialise in the support of parents whose child has died. Or, to children or young people who have been bereaved of a parent or significant person in their lives. They have a team of qualified counsellors and trained visiting counsellors. They offer individual and group support as well as offering a wide range of alternative therapies.
A new line of work for them sees them working alongside the Zephyr Project offering counselling services. This is based at Nottingham City Hospital.
Fortunately, in modern times childhood death is not common. But the fact still remains that some children do die, and the lives of the families left behind are shattered. The Laura Centre is there to support the family, to try and help them answer questions, process their emotions and support their mental wellbeing.
For children, the grieving process when they lose someone close to them, maybe a parent, is a pivotal moment in their lives. They need supporting through it. There is an array of, often new feelings, which can impact on their general emotional and mental health wellbeing.
The charity is amazing, and it is also very important to us that they are a local charity being close to our head office in Market Harborough, Leicestershire, with their centres in Leicester, Derby and Coventry.
